The management of everyday activities in the home environment can be an extremely complex task. This is especially true when we consider the introduction of hi-tech devices into the home. The Accord project is developing natural, tangible techniques that will allow novel interactive devices to be controlled and configured in the home environment. In particular we are developing a Tangible Toolbox that will enable people to easily embed functionality into existing artefacts around the home and enable these devices to be integrated with each other. Our work is informed by ethnographic studies of the home and the common activities that occur within homes.
